    Falmouth Sea Shanty Festival 2018

Welcome to one of the biggest maritime music festivals anywhere in Europe !

    Friday 22nd of June-Sunday 24th of June 2018

The Falmouth International Sea Shanty Festival started in 2003 by Falmouth Shout. A group of singers whose mission is to keep alive the history of Tall Ships and the days of sail. Performing sea shanties, songs of the sea and Cornish songs. The Festival’s mission is to raise money for the RNLI as well as preserving and promoting the maritime heritage of the area.

Expect over 60 shanty groups, 25 venues and 350 hours of shanty singing!  The town becomes alive with music, singing and a great community spirit! Groups coming from far and wide including Brittany, Holland, Ireland and right across the UK. In the past, the likes of  Fisherman’s Friends, Rum & Shrub, Exmouth Shantymen and much more have appeared!

The synergy of Classic Boats and Sea Shanties produces an event which provides an ideal opportunity to bring the Town and the Sailing scene closer together.

In common with other Celtic nations, Cornish people love singing, music and song. It has always been an important part of the county’s culture. Whether it be a miner, fishermen or farmer after the work was done, there were always stories to tell, songs to sing and a few pints to drink. The Sea Shanty festival provides a platform where that heritage of storytelling through song comes alive.
